Kennel Cough

Charlotte's Mom has had to quarantine her baby due to kennel cough ! According to Charlotte's doctor kennel cough is always present, and is prevalent whenever there are groups of dogs interacting.
Inoculations can last anywhere from 3 months to 1 year, depending on exposure. The more exposure, the shorter the time the dog is immune.
Luckily treatment is fairly simple, a strong course of antibiotics for 2weeks,and isolation from other dogs. BUT....this can be prevented. Please make sure your canine buddy is current with all their shots, and if you are unsure, you are better off to err on the side of caution, and have a booster.

  1. Yikes! Thanks for the info Sandra and Chandler. I didn't know that Charlotte was not well. Quite frankly I'm getting more and more worried with sharing Hank's water down at the park. Hank was sick about a month ago with some type of bug that he may or may not have gotten from the park and now with Charlotte sick its not good. Maybe we shouldn't share each other's water. Seems cruel as a lot of owners don't bring water to the park, but if they don't bring water maybe they don't get their dog innoculated as they should be doing. It makes me worry that's for sure. I would really hate for Hank to get sick. Any ideas what we can do to stop things from spreading?

  2. Hi Guys,

Just got back from the vet with Chloe and she also has kennel cough. The vet told me he's seeing a bigger outbreak than he's ever seen. Chloe has been vaccinated but he explained it's like teh flu shot and that its not always 100% effective but that those vaccinated will have it less severely. Dogs are usually contagious for 3 days before symptoms show up and are contagious for around 10 days....See you all in August!
